Community Meetings on the Budget Crisis

Parents, Duval County Public Schools employees and all taxpayers are invited to Community Meetings that will examine the school district’s anticipated $170 million budget shortfall for the 2009-10 school year and its potential impact on schools.

Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals will explain:

  • How public education is funded
  • How funding has changed and dropped in recent years
  • The truth about lottery funding
  • What DCPS has done, what DCPS is doing to cut costs
  • Shortfall projections for 2009-10
  • What cuts the shortfall forces on DCPS
  • What parents, employees and taxpayers can do to help

All meetings begin at 6 p.m. (with the exception of Fletcher, see below). Dates and locations are:  

  • Wed., Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., Fletcher High, 700 Seagate Ave., Neptune Beach  
  • Mon., Feb. 23, Wolfson High, 7000 Powers Ave., Jacksonville
  • Tues., Feb. 24, Ribault High, 3701 Winton Dr., Jacksonville
  • Wed., Feb. 25, Ed White High, 1700 Old Middleburg Rd., Jacksonville
  • Thurs., March 5, Sandalwood High, 2750 John Prom Blvd., Jacksonville
