Steering Committee members developed a strategic plan through the District’s Project Charter process.  The Projects listed below represent the formalization of the District’s work around equity and inclusion.  The Council’s vision for the future is:

  • Awareness of diversity and inclusion issues;

  • Curriculum that embodies cultural differences;

  • A student body engaged in curricular experiences that prepare it for the increased diversity in our society and the world; and

  • A transformed, equitable system – in all areas of education and operation – by leveraging our diversity as a change agent for cultural competency.

Projects

  • Diversity Training for Duval County personnel through collaboration with the Schultz Center.  This will include a cascade process beginning with the top of the organization resulting in attitudinal, behavioral and institutional change.

  • Equity Learning Communities (ELC) – members will take part in diversity/teambuilding opportunities, and align and integrate their activities with the Council’s charter.  Drive diversity through curriculum and cultural shift to ensure sound pedagogy and access to practical resources for teachers and students around equity and inclusion.

  • Stakeholder Initiatives – Implement activities for stakeholders – students, educators, administrators, and the community that provide an opportunity to listen, provide options, identify and address critical individual, group and system issues, increase overall awareness around diversity and inclusion, and work to address disparities based on race, economic standing, and other personal characteristics and life styles.

  • Communication and Public Relations Strategy – Brand the District as one that celebrates diversity and respects differences.

  • Evaluation and Assessment – Develop and administer scientific-based research, assessment and evaluation infrastructure to monitor, refine, and constantly improve equity and inclusion initiatives.
