What is the procedure for
purchasing software?
Before making any software purchases, contact your
Instructional Technology Coordinator. The Division of Technology has
standards for software that all software purchases must meet. Network
versions of software to be installed on a server MUST be tested by
Research and Development. All software installations must be coordinated
with Technical Support Services. Your Instructional Technology Coordinator
can assist you with choosing software that meets our standards.
Additionally, the district is standardizing on Microsoft Office products.

How can we have a school web page
hosted by the District?
The Student Web Development Team provides
user-friendly templates for web page creation for every school. The
templates can be used from any Internet capable computer and no software
is needed.

How do I get technology training
for my teachers?
We have developed several technology
training modules for training teachers. We currently offer training in
integrating Windows 9.x, Windows NT and Windows 2000. We also offer
training in Beginning Technology Literacy, Intermediate Level Courses
through the I-Tech Academy and Advanced courses through Camp ITIWALLA. For
more information, please contact your Instructional Technology
Coordinator.

an Integrating Learning System such as Compass.
Contact you Instructional Technology Coordinator.
There are specific items that must be purchased with an ILS in order for
the purchase to be approved. Remember: ALL software that
will be on a computer that is on the network must be approved
by R&D before a purchase will go through.

How does network software get
approved?
Ask the vendor for a full working copy. Make sure
that it is compatible with Windows 2000 server. Bring the working version
to your coordinator so he/she can set up testing. When testing is
complete, they will be able to tell you if the software is approved or
disapproved.

What needs to be purchased
besides the software when purchasing an integrated learning system?
Your school must also purchase installation,
training, and technical support. If an upgrade is provided by the vendor,
the school must ensure that they have adequate hard drive space on the
server. In some cases an additional "member server" must be purchased.

When in doubt, check with your Instructional
Technology Coordinator to be sure that your purchase suits your students'
needs and your school's technical needs.
