General Information
Boiled Water/Bottled Water Advisory Procedures
1. The plumber will immediately issue the Boiled
Water/Bottled Water Advisory to the school principal
during a water main break or any other temporary
disruption in water services that may cause the system
pressure to drop below 20 psi.
2. The plumber will then notify his Plumbing Supervisor
via phone of the Boiled Water/Bottled Water Advisory
alert. The Plumbing Supervisor will fill out a Bottled
Water report and will immediately call/fax Rick Ramirez,
Wastewater/Water Foreman, making him aware of the
situation.
3. During this time, the school principal will apply to
each drinking fountain in the affected areas a copy of
the Boiled Water/Bottled Water Advisory, which reads as
follows:
NOTICE, DO NOT DRINK!
The Duval County Public Health Unit, as a matter of
standard procedure, requires this advisory to schools
that have experienced a water main break or other
temporary disruption in water service that may cause the
system pressure to drop below 20 psi (pounds per square
inch). As a precautionary measure you are advised that
water used for drinking and food preparation be boiled
for at least three (3) minutes to assure its safety or
bottled water be provided until further notice.
The applicable water service area will be flushed,
sampling and testing will be done to ensure all drinking
water standards are met.
This advisory will be lifted by the Duval County Public
Health unit upon completion of a satisfactory
bacteriological survey.
4. The Wastewater/Water Foreman will immediately FAX a
copy of the completed Boiled Water Advisory Report to
the Duval County Public Health Unit. Once repairs have
been made, he will send personnel to the school to
collect water samples to be forwarded to the appropriate
laboratory for testing. Testing will take a minimum of
three (3) days to ensure all drinking water standards
are met.
5. During emergency bottled water needs, the principal
or designee will contact Duval County Public Schools
bottled water vendor, Crystal Springs, for delivery of
bottled water for three (3) business days.
a) Principal or designee needs to call Crystal Springs.
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. call 768-3480, ext. 350
(Charlotte) or 244
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. call 768-3480 ext. 0
b) Inform Crystal Springs of the following:
• School name
• School address and phone number
• Crystal Springs will need to know your approximate
school student enrollment combined with personnel count
• Inform them you need Duval county standard order
c) Duval county standard order (for each day of
advisory)
based on enrollment, 16.9 ounce bottles of water
(approximately 2 bottles per student)
also included 3 cases of gallon size water containers
for food service use
(which is, 6 gallons to a case)
d) All service calls placed before 2:00 p.m. should
receive same day delivery, if possible. Calls after 2:00
p.m. will be serviced the next day.
e) All invoices will be sent to Food Services, School
Building No. 275, for payment.
f) When advisory is removed, if you have ordered more
water than you need please contact Crystal Springs for
pick up and credit.
