Teacher Induction Program (TIP) and Mentoring

The mission of the Teacher Induction Program is to provide a supportive, structured program that will foster growth and commitment to excellence in teaching.

The DCPS TIP is designed to assist and support teachers new to the district through a differentiated support network. Each new teacher has a school-based resource team to provide support throughout their first years of teaching.

Resource Team

  • Principal

  • Professional Development Facilitator, coordinator for TIP at the school

  • School-based Mentor, classroom teacher trained to observe and coach new teachers

  • District Cadre representative, a master teacher responsible for supporting novice teachers

Program Requirements

  • The DCPS TIP is a state-approved professional competence demonstration program required to obtain Florida Professional Educator Certification.

  • Differentiated programs are provided to new teachers based on their level of experience and teacher preparation. Detailed program information can be found on the New Teacher Website.

Program Resources

  • Each school has a district cadre representative who provides an additional layer of support for new teachers. The TIP Cadre are master teachers who can provide classroom support and also ensure that new teachers understand their TIP requirements.

  • TIP workshops are available in both face-to-face and on-line formats. The workshops cover a variety of timely topics and may be used to fulfill program requirements. Refer to the New Teacher Website for a schedule for our workshops offerings.

Mentoring Program

  • The DCPS Cadre Mentoring Program is a school-based initiative designed to develop and prepare mentor teachers to coach and support novice teachers effectively.

  • This specialized learning community provides experienced professionals an opportunity to collaborate and hone their mentoring expertise through monthly book study and reflective practice. More information is available under the mentor link on the New Teacher Website.
