Extended Day Enrichment Program
EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this
program is to provide safe, affordable, structured, and well-supervised care
before and after school for students of working parents. Our objectives include
educational enrichment, remediation help, recreational activities, and social
interaction for all students participating in the program. Academic enhancement
(homework help and enrichment activities), tutoring, and remediation are
provided. These activities reflect the standards based efforts of the school
district in reading, math, and science. The enrichment activities may include
computers, music, cooking drama, arts/crafts, and special events. Each program
also has a handbook of physical activities for indoor and outdoor play.
Currently, 85 out of 106 elementary schools have an Extended Day Program (EDP).
Approximately 10,400 students participate in the program.
Hours of operation are 7:00-8:30 in the morning and 3:00-6:00 in the afternoon.
The program is fee-based and totally self-supporting. Parents prepay a monthly
fee. The morning fee is $13 per week per child. The afternoon fee is $25 per
week. To attend both morning and afternoon is $38 per week per student. Our
extended day program is the least expensive in the state.
