Business Academy offers a sequence of courses providing
relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to

The BEAM Academy prepares students for post-secondary
education and careers in the building,

industries. Academic classes with a career-related

hands-on assignments and the opportunity to build
several structures. The academy also includes practical
experiences in management of digital layout, and design,

Information Technology Academy
Students in the IT Academy can
choose to study Game/Simulation/Animation or Scientific
Visualization. The Animation and Gamin program includes
three pathways for students to choose from:
Programming, Audio/Video Effects and Visual Design. The
Scientific Visualization program is the first of its
kind in Florida. Students will use 2D graphics, 3D
Animation and more to illustration and explain
scientific concepts. The skills students will learn in
this program will prepare them for a variety of
careers. For example, an educational website designer
uses scientific visualization to convey complicated
scientific ideas in an easy –to-understand visual way to
the public. Architects also use scientific
visualization to illustrate for their clients what a
finished structure will look like.

Frank H. Peterson Academies of
Technology
Aviation Academy
The Aviation Academy will focus on
three career pathways; Aerospace Engineering, provides
an overview of the broad range of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) This course features
an extensive overview of the history of aviation,
current technological innovations, case studies, and
real world examples which support an understanding of
the progression of aerospace technology. Aviation
Maintenance, instruction is designed to prepare students
for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) license
examinations for Airframe rating. This program prepares
students for employment as an Aviation General
Maintenance Technician Helper, and an Aviation
Maintenance Technician with FAA Airframe Rating. Air
Traffic Control, Peterson Academies was chosen by
Florida State College of Jacksonville to participate in
a dual enrollment program as part of its FAA approved
Air Traffic Control program. Students learn on a state
of the art air traffic control simulator in a special on
site lab. Students who choose to enroll in this program
can earn free college credits toward an Associate of
Science Degree in Aviation Operations. This credit may
also be transferable to other colleges as an elective.
Students in all three career pathways may earn industry
certifications upon graduations.

Communications Academy
Students will be exposed to three
career pathways, New Media Technology, preparing
students with the relevant technical knowledge and
skills needed to prepare for further education and
careers in digital media, new media and multimedia
positions. Commercial Art prepares the student to go to
work as a graphic designer. Graphic design is a creative
process-most often involving a client and a designer and
usually completed in conjunction with producers of form
undertaken in order to convey a specific message to a
targeted audience. And Television Production, this
course prepares the student to go to work in a
Television Production field or continuing education in
Television Production at a College or University.
Students will be prepared for initial employment as
operators, technicians, camera operators, and video
recording engineers.

The Information Technology Academy
prepares students for college and careers in computer
technology through course work in Introduction to
Information Technology, New Media, Digital Video Sound

The content includes but is not

entry-level positions in these career fields through
practical experiences in digital photography, Web page
design, digital video editing, and presentation
development. Specialized skills in multimedia
presentations and production such as video editing,
audio input, and simple animation are used to produce a
variety of multimedia projects.

upon graduation.

Public Safety/Criminal Justice Academy
The Public Safety/Criminal Justice Academy emphasizes
community service officer, private security and
corrections training. The training allows high school
graduates to seek employment while they continue their
education at a community college or university to become
law enforcement or probation officers. The training is
also a significant head start for those students
interested in law or social work. The Public
Safety/Criminal Justice Academy is the only program in
the state that certifies the high school student as
having met the requirements for a Florida Class “D”
unarmed security license. The successful student also
receives a vocational certificate in criminal justice
and American Red Cross certification in first aid, CPR
and AED.
