Duval County Public Schools is proud to be a "B" school district!
Duval County is home to three of the nation's best high schools according to Newsweek Magazine. Stanton College Prep (4), Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (129) and Paxon School for Advanced Studies (170)
According to the Florida Department of Education, Duval County has two high schools that rank in the top 12 throughout the state - Stanton College Prep ranked 5th and Paxon School for Advanced Studies ranked 12th
Duval County has two middle schools that rank in the top 20 throughout the state according to the Florida Department of Education - Julia Landon College Prep ranked 11th and James Weldon Johnson ranked 17th
The number of Duval County Public Schools' students passing AP, IB, and AICE exams increased over 10% this year
18 out of 21 Duval County high schools scored A, B or C grades (84%).
Schools with "A" grades are Frank H. Peterson (up from a "D"), Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School, Paxon School for Advanced Studies and Stanton College Prep.
Schools with "B" grades are Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Terry Parker (up two letter grades), Mandarin, Fletcher, Sandalwood and Robert E. Lee (up two letter grades)
Schools with "C" grades are A. Philip Randolph (up two letter grades), Baldwin, Englewood, Jean Ribault (up one letter grade), Wolfson (up one letter grade), Forrest (up one letter grade), Atlantic Coast and First Coast (up one letter grade)
Grace Wilhelm, a counselor at Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School, was named a semifinalist for the 2012 School Counselor of the Year Award by the American School Counsel Association
Todd Simpson, principal at Reynolds Lane Elementary received the Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award of $10,000
Duval County Public Schools is second in the state in the percent of graduates completing at least one AP, IB, AICE or Dual Enrollment Course and fifth in the state in the percent of graduates taking the SAT
The Duval County high school graduation requirements are the highest in the state of Florida
Duval County has 37 established career academies, with five being recognized for meeting the National Standards of Practice in 2010-11 and one as a model school
The 15 semifinalists from Duval County's public school teachers have been selected for the 2012 Duval County Teacher of the Year
In 2011, 18 teachers earned National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Bringing the total number of board certified teachers to 495

For nine consecutive years, DCPS has been awarded both the Governmental Finance Officers Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Association of School Business Officials International's Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting
Eight Duval County elementary students were selected to join the 2012 All-State Elementary Chorus. Four of the chosen students attend Atlantic Beach Elementary; two attend Bartram Springs Elementary; one attends Beauclerc Elementary; and one attends Chets Creek Elementary
Walker Miller, a sixth-grader from James Weldon Johnson, was announced as Duval County's 2012 Spelling Bee Champion. Walker's winning word was "mechanistic."

Duval County Public Schools serves more than 3800 students in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program which represents 115 countries and approximately 73 different languages in 155 schools

Mark Frank received the Outstanding Adult Volunteer Award for his 2,000+ hours of work at Joseph Finegan Elementary. Eula Irwin received the Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award for her 800+ hours of volunteerism at Thomas Jefferson Elementary

5 Duval County public schools were named 2010-2011 Five Star Schools by the Florida Department of Education for superior parent/community engagement. Congratulations to Enterprise Learning Academy, Jacksonville Beach Elementary, Loretto Elementary, Seabreeze Elementary and Stockton Elementary!

Duval County employs 60 teachers through the Teach for America program
24 Duval County students' artwork is displayed in a new exhibit, "Hopes and Dreams," at the Cummer Museum of Arts and Gardens. Students created the artwork by projecting their dreams for the future.

Duval County Public Schools' Supervisor of Guidance Services, Nan Worsowicz was awarded the Administrator/Supervisor Advocacy Award by The Florida School Counselor Association.

John Sears, senior at Paxon School for Advanced Studies and Alex Fay Holt, senior at Terry Parker High School, have placed first and second, respectively, for the Jacksonville Exchange Club ACE Awards

Stanton College Preparatory Leads Nation in AP European History Scores Among African American Students

The Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership focuses on teaching, leadership and the partnership between business and education in Florida

The Teacher Supply Depot collects donated materials from companies throughout the Jacksonville area and gives those supplies and materials free to teachers
