Let Legislators Know Your Priorities
The Duval County School Board and Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals are joining their counterparts across Florida, as well as teacher organizations, PTAs and others, to ask state legislators for decisive action that will limit the impact of the current economic crisis on public education.
Parents, DCPS employees and citizens are being asked to contact legislators and make their priorities known to these decision makers.
Education leaders are asking legislators to:
- Find new revenue, possibly a one-cent, limited time sales tax increase with the funds directed solely to close the K-12 funding shortfall.
- Give flexibility to school districts for the spending of "categorical" funds.
- While the budget crisis persists, suspend implementation of unfunded mandates.
- Give us flexibility on the use of capital funds to help narrow the funding gap.
