Holiday Hill Elementary Students Can Be Whom They "Wannabee"

Administrators and teachers at Holiday Hill Elementary created a special program to assist students in preparing for the FCAT.  Starting in September for approximately two hours every Wednesday, fourth grade students participated in a writing camp, and fifth grade students took part in a math camp.  The weekly camps culminated in January with Camp Iwannabee.  During this week-long camp, fourth and fifth grade students spent each day working as writers, mathematicians and scientists to complete projects from start to finish.  Students also received visits from motivational speakers.

The school’s project was funded through donations received by the school.  According to Principal Sharon Sanders, teachers were supportive of the project.  Fourth and fifth grade teachers worked together to plan and teach lessons, and they even decorated the learning environment to reflect a real campsite.
