Good Deeds by DCPS Employees and Students
Duval County Public Schools’ Exceptional Education and
Student Services (EESS) Department hosted a Buddy Bear
Drive where staff collected more than 200 bears in just
two weeks to donate to cancer patients. Since everyone
in the department has been directly and indirectly
affected by cancer, the staff decided to participate in
First Coast News' Buddy Bear
Drive. Other caring Duval County Public Schools’ staff
joined in the EESS Department’s bear-collecting mission
including the Title 1 office, K-8 and high school
cluster offices, and Alden Road Exceptional Education
Center.
The EESS Department wasn’t
the only one with a giving spirit. Forrest High School
Diversified Career Training (DCT) students, with the
help of administrators, faculty, students, and business
partners, also donated more than 200 stuffed bears to First
Coast News' Buddy Bear Drive.
The students’ goal was 100 bears, but they surpassed
their goal at 220 bears. And, they are still receiving
donations. Some of the students traveled with
Jeannie Blaylock and a news camera crew to
deliver the bears to grateful recipients. The students,
and the bears, were welcomed with open arms.
