Did You Know

  • Did you know there are more than 20 schools in Duval County named for African-Americans who made important contributions to our local community and our country? For more information and a list of the schools, click here.

  • Did you know that Southside Middle School students started an after school club that specializes in kindness?  The students voluntarily stay after school on Monday afternoons to perform special projects, such as making cards for U.S. soldiers in Iraq, collecting food for the Jacksonville Humane Society, gathering blankets for the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, and so much more.  To read a Florida Times-Union article about the club, click here.

  • Did you know that 161 Duval County Public Schools’ employees donate one hour a week to mentor students at Northwestern, Ribault, Eugene Butler, Paxon, and Matthew Gilbert middle schools?  In recognition of National Mentoring Month, the Community Involvement Office hosted a “Thank Your Mentor” social complete with cake and an ice cream sundae bar.  If you are interested in becoming a mentor, contact W.D. Robinson at 390-2511 or e-mail him.
