Let Your Voice Be Heard

You have a stake in Senate Bill 148, and the Senate Education Committee needs to hear from you.  On Wednesday, January 24 from 9 to 11:30 a.m., the Senate Education Committee will address Senate Bill 148.  This bill will repeal last year’s legislation requiring school to start no earlier than 14 days prior to Labor Day.  If it passes, our School Board will regain control of our calendar and will be able to keep the school calendar as it has been in the past.  Students will complete the entire first semester before winter break.  If it does NOT pass, the first semester of school will come to an end after the students return from winter break.  This change will affect us all, but most importantly, it will affect the students.

According to Don Gaetz, chairman of the Senate Education Committee, he has received more than 600 e-mail messages from hotel and lodging associations and the tourism industry.  However, he has not heard from the stakeholders whom it affects the most—you—and others who represent public education.  There are only a few days remaining to share your opinions.

Please send an e-mail to the committee’s representatives in support of SB 148.  This decision will greatly impact our efforts in delivering quality education to students in a manner that best serves their needs.  Share your voice with the Senate Education Committee!
