Superintendent Sets Goals for
District
In remarks on November 6,
2007, when the Duval County School Board appointed him
Superintendent, William E. (Ed) Pratt-Dannals briefly
outlined five goals that will guide the work of his
administration during the next two to three years.
Mr. Pratt-Dannals echoed
comments by Duval County School Board members that the
Board’s adopted Core Beliefs and Commitments and its
Theory of Action to align curriculum and instruction
will be the framework upon which the
Board-Superintendent team builds in the near future.
Mr. Pratt-Dannals put forth
the following goals as the new Duval County Public
Schools (DCPS) Superintendent:
- To significantly reduce
the achievement gap for low-income and minority
students while improving overall student
performance;
- To improve the
graduation rate and ensure that DCPS graduates are
prepared for work and post-secondary education
whether at a college, a university or in technical
training;
- To create long-term
capacity for low performing schools by staffing them
with high performing principals and teachers that
are surrounded by district and community resources;
- To lead the best
prepared teachers and principals in the nation and
recognize that the work they do each day has the
greatest impact on student growth, both academically
and socially; and
- To ensure we have safe
and respectful schools in Duval County
