Receives Awards for Financial Excellence
For the sixth year in a row,
Duval County Public Schools has been awarded both the
Governmental Finance Officers Association’s Certificate
of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and
the Association of School Business Officials (ABSO)
International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial
Reporting for their Comprehensive annual Financial
Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.
The Governmental Finance
Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement
Program has been in operation since 1946. The purpose
of this program is to encourage and assist governments
to prepare financial reports of the highest quality for
the benefits of citizens and other parties with a vital
interest in a government’s finances. During the half
century the program has operated, it has gained
widespread recognition as the premier indicator of
excellence in governmental accounting and financial
reporting.
To earn the CAFR, the
District met the program’s demanding criteria, which
goes well beyond the minimum requirements of the
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAPP). Only
those reports judged by all reviews to have
substantially met the program’s criteria are awarded the
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting.
The Certificate of Excellence
in Financial Reporting for the District's Comprehensive
Annual Financial Report from the ASBO International was
also awarded for achieving the highest standards in
accounting and financial reporting. The Certificate of
Excellence Program was established by the ASBO in 1972
to encourage and recognize excellence in school system
comprehensive annual financial reports. Participation in
this program validates a school system’s commitment to
fiscal and financial integrity and enhances the
creditability to the School Board and the community.
Being a recipient of both of these prestigious
awards has a positive impact on the district’s debt
issuance and provides the District with a stronger
investor confidence. These awards reflect the
professionalism and commitment of numerous individuals.
It also reflects a high degree of dedication and
leadership on the part of the Business Services staff on
behalf of the District. The CAFR provides ten years of
statistical and audited financial information to various
entities and interested parties at the following
