DCPS District News Hotline
While we depended on the local media to spread the word regarding school closures due to Tropical Storm Fay, many employees were confused regarding their work schedules during this week. Duval County Public Schools has a hotline where faculty and staff can call in for important district information and news, including the closure of schools and district offices. The District News Hotline is 904.390.2127. Please utilize this number or our web site for updated information during emergencies.
Weather Make-up Days Announced
Due to Tropical Storm Fay, Duval County public schools were closed August 20-22. As a result, it has been determined that
students will make these days up on Monday, November 10, Thursday, December 18
and Friday, December 19.
Upcoming College Fairs
“Dream Big Dreams” College Fair
On Saturday, September 6 from 12 to 4 p.m., the 6th Annual “Dream Big Dreams” College Recruiting Fair will take place at
Raines High School, 3663 Raines Ave. Recruiters from colleges and university from around the countries will be present. Students are encouraged to bring their transcripts for on-the-spot admissions and scholarships. Free tickets to the Willie E. Gary Classic will be given out during the fair.
Jacksonville College Fair
On Wednesday, September 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the National Scholarship Service (NSS), Inc. will host the Jacksonville College Fair. The fair is being held at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center and is free for all high school juniors, seniors and community college students. Free transportation to and from all Duval County high schools will be provided for students and chaperones.
Updated District Directories
The 2008-2009 Duval County Public Schools’ District Directories have been updated and are available to print from the Communications Department web page. From this page you can print directories, which include school listings, department listings and directions to schools. We are currently working to update the District-level Employee List; as soon as it becomes available, it will be posted to the Communications web page.
Fitness Center Discount
DCPS’ employees are eligible for discounts at several First Coast area fitness centers. The Employee Wellness Office has created the attached document, which lists discount information for the YMCA, Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym, Curves and many more. To receive the discount at Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym, contact Tonya Hill or Crystal White at 904.390.2353 for a corporate discount card.
