Mandatory District Trainings:
Valuing Diversity and Sexual Harassment
Building awareness around the
issues of diversity, equity and inclusion is critical to
the success and well-being of all Duval County Public
Schools students and employees. As you know, the
district has identified a set of nine (9) core beliefs
and commitments. The second core belief on that list of
nine reads, “The Duval County School Board believes that
our greatest strength as a school district is the
racial, gender, ethnic and socio-economic diversity of
our students and community.” The commitment tied to that
belief states that “The Duval County School Board will
develop and celebrate the racial, gender, ethnic and
socio-economic diversity of our students and community.”
As a means of developing the
district’s core beliefs and commitments and aligning
them to its strategic plan, training and skill-building
on diversity, equity and inclusion will be provided to
all staff. We are presently developing our district’s
Five-Year Diversity Plan. Training and skill-building
are part of this plan and it is aligned with the six
goals of the Strategic Plan.
All employees hired prior to December 31, 2008 will be required to complete two online
courses entitled “Valuing Diversity” and “Sexual
Harassment.” These courses are offered as prerequisites
to on-going and regular training in these areas. Both
courses are available online at
http://duval.howtomaster.com and should be completed
by June 1, 2009. They are convenient and can be easily
accessed by employees at any time; however, each school
will be responsible for providing opportunities for
employees to complete the training during the day. To
login to the system, employees must use their
eight-digit employee number as their User ID and the
Password is PASSWORD.
