DCPS Teachers Recognized for Excellence in Teaching

Five Duval County Teachers received the 2008 Excel Awards at the First Annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Program in Orlando. Three of the five Duval County teachers will receive awards in two separate categories.

The Foundation for Excellence in Education, created Excellence in Teaching to recognize the importance of teachers in providing a quality education. The program is based on three core principles: 1) All students can learn and students should learn a year’s worth of knowledge in a year’s time; 2) Effective teaching is the key to student achievement and conversely, student achievement is a measure of effective teaching; 3) The skills and techniques to become an effective teacher can be learned.
