In the Jacksonville Business Journal's "2008 Book of Lists" published this month, Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) retained its distinction as a top employer in the Duval County marketplace.
DCPS's head count of 13,655 in the Book is surpassed only by Naval Air Station Jacksonville, which lists 25,000 employees.
Number three on the "Government Employers" list, just behind DCPS is Naval Station Mayport with 13,000 employees.
In the Book's "Private-Sector Employers" list, the top three spots are held by Wal-Mart Stores with 8,250 employees, Baptist Health with 7,718 workers and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida with 7,601 employees.
DCPS has held a top slot in the Jacksonville Business Journal for many years. The Business Journal's 21st edition of the Book contains 210 pages of data compiled about more than 3,000 companies, organizations and executives in northeast Florida.
