The Original Highwaymen & Their Work
The Friends of the Willowbranch Library, in conjunction with the Florida Humanities Council, will host a program entitled Harold Newton: The Original Highwayman on Saturday, January 19th at 11 a.m. The Highwaymen were a group of self-taught African American artists who painted their way out of poverty during the 1950s. Newton, a Florida Landscape painter was the leader of the Highwaymen. Click here for more event information.
Award Winning Author to Teach Eight-Week Writing Workshop
Local award-winning author, June Weltman will teach an eight-week workshop on "Writing Mysteries for Children and Teens" through Mandarin High School's Adult Community Education starting Thursday, January 24. The class is open to writers ages 16 and older. Workshops will cover the development of character, plot and setting. Classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost for the eight-week class is $45.

Voice, Awareness and Education Youth Summit
The Duval Youth Voice Council will host the Voice, Awareness and Education Summit for young people ages 13 through 18, parents, caregivers and community stakeholders interested in hearing the voices of young people. The event will be held at the Jacksonville's Children's Commission, 1095 A. M.L.K. Dance
The City of Jacksonville's Division of Recreation and Community Programming is hosting an M.L.K. Dance to celebrate the birthday and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Come and enjoy music, dancing, food, drinks and more on Friday, January 18 from 6:30 until 10 p.m. at the Blue Cypress Community Center, 4012 University Boulevard North.
