2008 Sunshine State Scholars
Stanton College Preparatory student Chris Perera and Paxon School for Advanced Studies student Jordan Hester have been selected as District Scholars for the 2008 Sunshine State Scholars Program.
The Sunshine State Scholars Program was initiated in 1998 as a way to recognize Florida seniors for their outstanding performance in mathematics and science.
On January 9, Chris and Jordan participated in the Regional Competition. If successful at this next level, both students will move on to the state competition, which will be held this March in Tallahassee.
Congratulations to both students for being selected as 2008 District Scholars and best wishes as you advance through the competition.
Central Riverside Elementary Students Received Early Holiday Surprise
On Friday, December 7, students at Central Riverside Elementary arrived at school to find their doors and hallways covered in gold tinsel, and backpacks full of books and toys at their desks. Thanks to a generous donation from the Chrysler Financial Team, Central Riverside Elementary was selected to participate in Volunteer Jacksonville's 'A Visit From Saint Nicholas' program.
The 'A Visit from Saint Nicholas' program brings members of the community together to promote literacy to students at select elementary schools. Community volunteers stuff and deliver the backpacks, decorate the school and read to the students during the event.
Principal Sheridan Brown, her staff and all of her students would like to thank everyone who made December 7 a very special day at Central Riverside Elementary.
