Jaxparks Presents...

Movies in the Park
The City of Jacksonville’s Department of Recreation and Community Programming is hosting, “Movies in the Park,” Friday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Carvill Community Center, 1302 Carvill Avenue. The movie starts at dusk, so bring your picnic baskets and lawn chairs.

Flick and Float
The City of Jacksonville’s Department of Recreation and Community Programming will host “Flick and Float.” This event will be held Friday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m., at Cecil Aquatics Center, 13611 Normandy Boulevard. Bring you family out for fun, refreshments and the family movie feature, “High School Musical 2.”


Faith-based Mentor Training

The Community Involvement Office is hosting a Faith-based Mentor Training on Saturday, June 14, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, at Potter’s House Christian Fellowship, 5119 Normandy Blvd.

This comprehensive and interactive three-hour training class is designed to ensure that all mentors have a successful volunteer experience by giving them the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to be a mentor. The training also includes a free continental breakfast and lunch, provided courtesy of the Potter’s House Soul Food Café.

Dates set for second round of Academic & Community Excellence (ACE) Plan

We will be holding our second round of meetings to gather input on an Academic and Community Excellence (ACE) plan for our schools throughout June. The plan includes facility assessment, utilization and school boundaries to ensure that all students receive a quality education within safe and secure learning environments.

The meeting dates and locations have been identified as:

  • June 16 - Andrew Jackson High School
  • June 23 - Ed White High School
  • June 24 - Wolfson High School
  • June 30 - Fletcher High School

All meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

Please take the time to attend one of the community meetings in your area. We look forward to gaining your valuable input into our future plans.


June 13th pay date

Summer work schedules (10 hours/4 days) begin the week of June 9-13. Payroll direct deposits will be available Friday, June 13. The Payroll Department will be open this day to handle any EZStub and pay problems.


Summer Professional Development Schedule

Attached is the summer professional development schedule. Please be encouraged to use this schedule as a guide for your summer professional development. Unless otherwise noted, ALL courses require online registration.

Any amendments to the schedule will be available on the homepage of the Schultz Center website, www.schultzcenter.org. The Schultz Center website also includes all updated information concerning teacher programs, registration support and the attendance policy.


Available In-service Points

*Last Chance*Creative Movement for Educators Workshop
The District Resource Office is hosting a workshop for elementary school teachers and administrators who engage in creative movement activities useful for teaching academic standards. Participants will learn simple, yet effective tools for integrating movement into all academic areas. Each participant will receive helpful, user-friendly materials.

The training will be held at the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership, 4019 Boulevard Center drive, on Tuesday, May 20, from 2 until 6 p.m. This session is free for DCPS employees and participants will receive four in-service credits. Summer Workshops
During June, the Safe and Healthy Schools Office will conduct workshops on Street Gangs and Violence, Bullying and Drugs. These workshops are for teachers, principals and school resource officers. All workshops will be head at the DCPS Administration Building, 1701 Prudential Drive, from 8 a.m. to noon. DCPS employees can receive up to eight Master Plan points; four points will be awarded for each session successfully completed. See what’s new at the Federal Reserve
The Federal Reserve will host several workshops this July at the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve, 800 Water Street. All workshops offer in-service points, are free of charge and include breakfast, lunch and workshop materials. Workshops will be held on Water and Resources, The Economics of the Great Depression, Building Wealth and many more.
