Stakeholders Opportunity to Preview
Potential Instructional Materials for Literature,
Language Arts and ESOL Adoption
On Wednesday, November 5 from 9 a.m.
until 6 p.m., all DCPS teachers, staff, administrators
and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to
review, talk to publishers, and submit comments on all
of the 6-12 Literature and Language Arts and the K-12
ESOL instructional materials (textbooks and ancillaries)
that are currently being considered for adoption by the
Duval County School Board.
The preview is being held at the Schultz
Center for Teaching and Leadership, 4019 Boulevard
Center Drive. Don’t miss this opportunity to have your
input in into the instructional materials that will be
used in the District for the next six years.

Veterans Day Holiday
All Duval County Public Schools and
offices will be closed Tuesday, November 11 in
observance of Veterans Day. This is a paid holiday for
all full time employees.
DCPS Maintain, No Gain Holiday Challenge
Beginning November 19 through January 5,
the Office of Employee Wellness will host the “Maintain,
No Gain Holiday Challenge” for all DCPS’ employees.
Why Maintain, No Gain? The average
American gains between eight and 10 pounds during the
holiday season. This six-week program encourages
participates to gain no more than two pounds during the
holiday season. The challenge also promotes healthy
eating habits and engaging in physical activity during
this time.

The Talking Book/Special Needs Library
The Jacksonville
Public Library’s Talking Book/Special Needs Library
provides books, magazines and descriptive videos as a
free service to school age children and young adults
with a disability. Materials are provided through the
mail to students and schools as “Free Matter for the
Blind and Physically Handicapped.” Books are available
from the kindergarten through the high school level.
Students and schools are encouraged to register for this
free service. If you have any questions or would like to
