DCPS Transportation Public Hearings

Next Tuesday, April 7, during the monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, three public hearings will be held regarding the transportation of Duval County Public Schools’ students. The meeting begins promptly at 6 p.m. in the Cline Auditorium, 1701 Prudential Drive, and the public hearings will take place during the Operations – Transportation portion of the agenda. Grant Writing Workshops

On April 16 and 23, DCPS’ Grants Department will host Grant Writing workshops for teachers, principals and district administrators. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room 608 of the district administration building, 1701 Prudential Drive. To register, please call Darlene Harris at 904.390.2186.


ARAMARK Education & Snapple $3,000 Scholarship

Snapple Beverage Corp. and ARAMARK Education have partnered together to offer $30,000 in college scholarships for 10 high school students. ARAMARK has secured one of those scholarships for a DCPS’ high school student.

Students are required to write a 500 – 750 word essay describing how they have made a difference through work in the community, or by participating in a health, wellness or environmental initiative. All high school students are welcome to participate. Even if they are not graduating this year, they can still win. For more information, visit the Fuel for Me Web site at http://www.fuel4me.com/. All entries are due by Friday, April 17.


2nd Biannual Jacksonville Green Expo

Global GreenUp, LLC will host the 2nd Biannual Jacksonville Green Expo on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, at the Prime Osborn Convention Center, 1000 Water St. The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.

Jacksonville Green Expo educates individuals, communities, businesses and policy makers in an effort to promote sustainable living through efficient, renewable energy, and the conservation of water and land resources.

A Green Awards Breakfast will be held Saturday, April 25, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., to honor the winning "green" nominees in the non-profit, business and individual categories.

Global GreenUp is looking for teachers and student volunteers. All interested volunteers can sign up at http://www.jacksonvillegreenexpo.com. Student volunteers will receive a free t-shirt.

*Teachers, remember students earn community service hours for working the expo.
