*Last Chance* Teacher of the Year Award - Florida Fund for Minority Teachers
Continuing a tradition established last year, the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers plans to recognize a new Teacher of the Year for 2009. There are certain criteria that must be met in order to be eligible for consideration. The teacher must be a graduate of one of the 33 representative Florida public or private educational institutions. In addition, they must have satisfied the minimum requirements of having three years of continuous teaching experience in a Florida public school, have received excellent performance evaluations and reviews, and have demonstrated the characteristics of a caring and qualified teacher leader.
This year's winner will receive a $1,000 cash award, a beautiful commemorative trophy and will be recognized at the 2009 annual conference to be held in Miami, Florida. A runner-up will be selected as well and receive a $500 cash award.

"Why Not" Video Contest for DCPS High School Students
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco is hosting a "Why Not" video competition for all high school students.
The competition asks students to share why they chose not to drink alcohol this Spring Break. All submissions are due by Saturday,

Teacher In-Service Opportunity
A visit to the Cummer's special exhibition, Georgia O'Keeffe and Her Times: American Modernism from the Lane Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is the inspiration for lesson plans that emphasize the integration of visual and critical thinking skills with sequencing and art, writing activities, music, poetry, history and literature activities.

Pay it Forward with Becca's Closet
The Jacksonville Chapter of Becca's Closet is currently collecting gently used prom and homecoming dresses to donate to students on the first coast. Becca's Closet originated in south Florida by allowing girls the opportunity to attend their own prom and homecomings with dresses donated by local students in the south Florida area.
