Duval County Top Teachers Named
Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) recently announced the names of 157 of their top teachers for the 2008-2009 school year.
These teachers were selected based on information submitted about their professional development, classroom practices and knowledge of current educational topics.
"One of our goals is to employ the best teachers," said Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. "By employing the best teachers, we are able to realize our vision of ensuring that all students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful."
Next month, the District Selection Committee will narrow the more than 150 Teacher of the Year semifinalists to six finalists. During the 18th Annual EDDY Awards on April 30, all teachers will be recognized, and Duval County's top teacher will be named. The EDDY Awards are hosted by the Jacksonville Public Education Foundation, formerly the Alliance for World Class Education. The Duval County Teacher of the Year will then go on to compete for the state-wide title.
