"Be the Change...Volunteer!" Poster Contest for DCPS 5th Graders
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month for the state of Florida and the city of Jacksonville. In honor of this month, HandsOn Jacksonville is hosting a “Be the Change…Volunteer!” poster contest for DCPS fifth-graders. Posters should depict ways in which anyone can make our community better by volunteering.
Please encourage your students to participate in this worthwhile poster contest. The first-place winner will receive four Park Hopper passes and a one-night hotel stay, courtesy of Disney and four one-day park tickets to Universal, courtesy of Universal Studios. Not only does this contest allow students to express themselves artistically, but it also educates them and others on the importance of volunteering to help others.
All submissions are due by Monday, March 16, 2009. For additional information download the contest’s
guidelines and
poster, or contact
Myra Simmons at
simmonsm@duvalschools.org.
*Schools, please remember that when students participate in any volunteer project where they do not receive a grade or extra credit, the time that they spend on the project contributes to your school’s student volunteer hours. These hours can also contribute to secondary schools earning the Silver School Award.
