Duval County Public Schools Receives Distinguished Awards for Budget Excellence
Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) recently received both the Government Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, as well as the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Meritorious Budget Award.
"These awards represent a significant achievement by our school district," said Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. "I commend our Budget staff for their continued commitment to sound financial practices during these tough fiscal times."
The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Award is presented to a governing body and staff for their dedication to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, organizations have to meet certain budgetary guidelines that assess how well their budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. For budgets including fiscal period 2007, only 1,165 entities received this award.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association that serves 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America.
ASBO International's Meritorious Budget Award is given to school districts that achieve excellence in the preparation and issuance of their annual budget. To receive the award, organizations must provide understandable and clear budget guidelines, encourage state of the art budget practices, and demonstrate sound fiscal management practices.
ASBO International is a professional association of nearly 6,000 school business management professionals that provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices.
