*LAST CHANCE* City of Jacksonville’s Animal Arts Contest
The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Control Division invites Duval County students to participate in its Animal Arts Contest. They are asking students of all ages to draw, color, paint or sculpt a rendering of their favorite household animal. Contest winners will be selected per grade level and will have their art displayed in the new Animal Care and Control Shelter. Winners will also receive an award which will be presented during the grand opening of the new shelter later this summer.
All entries should be submitted by May 22 to Christine Parker at: Animal Care and Control, 2580 West First St. Jacksonville, FL 32254.
"Be active, Be smart, Be healthy" Youth Conference
River Region Human Services’ Prevention Department will host its 2009 Youth Explosion at Edward Waters College on May 29 and 30 for youth ages 8-18. This 24-hour prevention conference will focus on the elimination of violence, health and fitness, and many other topics aimed to reduce risk.
This is a free event, but space is limited. Attached is an

Jacksonville Children's Commission Kicks Off Annual Summer Lunch Program
The Jacksonville Children's Commission (JCC), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Florida Department of Education will partner to provide nutritious snacks and lunches to Jacksonville children Monday, June 15 through Friday, Aug. 14, the time period most local children are on summer break.
During summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available, nutritionally-balanced meals will be provided to all Duval County children under the age of 18.

JTA's Teens on the Move Summer Youth Pass
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is offering teens 18 years old or younger the opportunity to buy the JTA Summer Youth Pass, which provides unlimited rides on any JTA bus, trolley or the Skyway, for one low price.
Teens can buy a June Summer Youth Pass for $30 and get July for free. And, until June 30, students can add August for only $15 more. That's two months (June and July) for $30 or three months (June, July and August) for $45.
As an additional treat to all Summer Youth Pass holders, JTA has partnered with the Jacksonville Suns to offer free admission to their Sunday and Wednesday games.
Passes can be purchased online at
