DCPS District Emergency Hotline

Duval County Public Schools has a hotline where students, faculty and staff can call in for important district information and news during an emergency. The information on the line will include the closure of schools and district offices. The District News Hotline is 904.390.2127. Please utilize this number or our Web site for updated information during emergencies.


The President and the Abolitionist: An Evening with Abraham Lincoln & Frederick Douglass

On Thursday, October 15, the Florida Humanities Council will present "The President and the Abolitionist: An Evening with Abraham Lincoln & Frederick Douglass,” at the Ritz Theatre & La Villa Museum, 829 N. Davis Street.

Following the presentation, the audience will have the opportunity to interact with Lincoln and Douglass, as well as an opportunity to question the two scholars. This free event is open to the public. For further information, contact Laurie Berlin 727-873-2006 or lberlin@flahum.org.


Mandarin Oaks Elementary School’s 20th Anniversary

Mandarin Oaks Elementary is celebrating 20 years of serving the students of Duval County Public Schools. They would like to invite all past and present faculty and staff members to a barbeque luncheon on Saturday, October 24, from noon to 2 p.m. The cost of the luncheon is $10. Jacksonville Children's Commission to host JaxKids Day

On Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Jacksonville Children’s Commission (JCC) will host JaxKids Day at the Main Library and Hemming Plaza downtown. During this free event, there will be health screenings, an outdoor family festival and Mayor Peyton will read to children at noon.

The event, formally known as Mayor Peytons’ Book Club Kick-off, provides a fun, safe, family-oriented day where the community can come out and learn about the valuable resources within the community. More than 50 organizations will be in attendance to provide information and fun activities for the entire family. For more information, visit www.jaxkids.net.


Duval Art Teachers Raise Funds for Art Scholarships

On Saturday, November 21, the Duval Art Teachers Association (DATA) will hold its 7th Annual Fabulous Florida Flamingo Fete. The fun-filled event will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership, 4019 Boulevard Center Drive. The Fete is DATA’s main venue to raise dollars for the Leslie Beddard Scholarship Fund through both a silent and live auction of hand-painted items and donated work by local artists. Tickets are $20 each or two for $35 (when purchased in advance). All tickets at the door will be $20.

This year, DATA will again display the "Painterly Palettes." Click here to see the palettes, which have been artistically enhanced by artists and art educators. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. You may purchase tickets through the art teacher at your school, or by calling the district Visual Arts Department at 390.2677.
