America Recycles Day Pledge Card Contest
To celebrate America Recycles Day on November 15, 2009, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Recycle Florida Today, Creative Recycling Systems, Inc. and Publix Super Markets are inviting all Florida students to participate in the sixth annual Florida (K-12) Schools Recycling Pledge Card Contest.
Students pledge to recycle and encourage others to recycle, thereby protecting Florida’s environment. The three schools that submit the most recycling pledge cards will be rewarded with a refurbished desktop computer, which includes a monitor, courtesy of Creative Recycling Systems, Inc. In addition, each individual who fills out a pledge card will be entered into a statewide drawing for either a $100 gift card, courtesy of Recycle Florida Today, or one of three $50 gift cards donated by Publix Super Markets.

U.S. Department of Education Launches Video Contest for Students
The U.S. Department of Education issued a call for students to submit videos in a contest called "I Am What I Learn." The contest asks each student to lay out the reasons education is so important to his or her future. Students with a clear vision of where their education and career training can take them are encouraged to put together a two-minute video and submit it
here. This is an opportunity for DCPS’ students to gain recognition individually and for the district, and offers a chance to win a $1,000 grand prize. The deadline for submissions is
Monday, Nov. 2.
