DCPS Welcomes Bartram Springs Elementary
On August 19, Duval County School Board members, administrators and city leaders joined community members for a celebration marking
the grand opening of
Bartram Springs Elementary School.
The new school, located at 14799 Bartram Springs Parkway near Racetrack Road and Philips Highway, is the southernmost school site
in Duval County.
"We are excited to open a new elementary school in an area of Duval County that continues to grow, and it's great to see how the
local community and our district came together in the best interest of our students," said Duval County Public Schools Superintendent,
Ed Pratt-Dannals. "This state-of-the-art facility provides a wonderful learning environment that will help promote the academic
achievement of our students."
Constructed by Skanska USA and the architectural firm of Bhide & Hall, Bartram Springs Elementary is a 98,000 square foot facility
situated on nearly 20 acres. It will accommodate more than 800 students, alleviating overcrowding at Greenland Pines elementary school.
"Our teachers, staff and students are eagerly anticipating the first day of school, and are thrilled to be a part of an outstanding
school in such a wonderful community," said Principal Jud Strickland. "We are truly building a tradition of excellence."
The school provides ESE facilities serving autistic and hearing impaired students, kindergarten play yards and covered play fields,
as well as a track. Also part of the new school campus is a library/media center, multipurpose room, high-tech stage, and food service
seating for 350 students.
The school's colors are red, white and blue, and the bald eagle will serve as its mascot.
