DCCPTA's "Be There" Essay Contest Extended

The Duval County Council of PTAs is hosting a “Be There” essay contest for all DCPS’ students. A total of six students – two elementary, two middle and two high school – will be awarded Domino’s pizza parties for their class. The winning essays will also be submitted to WJXT-4 as possible feature stories, where the students may be given the opportunity to appear on TV to read their essay.

The original message was for all essays to be delivered via school mail to Annette Worthen, DCC PTA; #3001, 6th floor by Monday, February 15; however, the 15th is President’s Day and the new deadline is Monday, March 8th. For more information contact Annette at 904.349.5263.


DCPS to Host Community Budget Meetings

Please join Superintendent Pratt-Dannals as he hosts a series of community meetings to discuss Duval County Public Schools’ current and upcoming financial situation, available revenue, and the district’s plan to meet its mission of providing all students with high quality educational opportunities.

All meetings will be begin at 6 p.m. at the specified high schools on the following dates: Thursday, March 11 at Sandalwood High School; Tuesday, March 16 at Peterson Academies of Tech; Thursday, March 18 at Jean Ribault High School; and Tuesday, March 23 at Mandarin High School.


DCPS Grant Writing Workshop

On February 18, DCPS’ Grants Department will host a Grant Writing workshop for teachers, principals and district administrators. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room 606 of the district administration building, 1701 Prudential Drive. Aspiring Leaders Academy Now Accepting Applications

The Schultz Center Leadership Institute is now accepting applications for the Aspiring Leaders Academy. The Aspiring Leaders Academy is a one-year leadership development program designed to recruit, train, support and retain high quality leaders who will increase student achievement and close the achievement gap.

JEA Offers Mini-grants for Teachers

As part of the official 2010 Earth Day Jacksonville Celebration, the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) is inviting all DCPS teachers to apply for a mini grant to fund an educational environmental project. All programs/projects will be judged on meeting these criteria: innovative ideas; educational value; and degree of impact on our community. Selected projects will be awarded up to $500 to implement.

National Transportation Week Local Fifth Grade Poster Contest

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has invited all DCPS fifth-grade students to participate in its annual National Transportation Week Poster Contest. This year’s theme is "Transportation: Moving the Region."
