Title I Parent Involvement Centers Educate Families and Community
Representatives from the district's Title I Success by Design Family Involvement Center recently met with members of the Cleveland
Arms Apartments' Board and residents for an evening of education and experiments.
Debra Keels, lead specialist, shared several resources with the parents that can be used at home to help their children be successful
in school. Parents were also given information about all 10 Family Involvement Center locations, which offer educational programs and
workshops, loan materials and much more.
Annie Gordon, parent liaison, provided a step-by-step process for making homemade ice cream, which entailed learning about heat
transfer and the metric system. This fun "make-n-take" activity was a crowd pleaser, just one of many "make-n-take"
activities offered at the family involvement centers.
"Residents were very receptive to information given concerning the Parent Involvement Centers, as well as the make-n-take
workshop," said Ms. Keels. "Parents left the meeting ready to share their experience with their children and other residents in the
community."
