DCCPTAs' "Be There" Essay Contest

The Duval County Council of PTAs is hosting a "Be There" essay contest for all DCPS' students. A total of six students - two elementary, two middle and two high school - will be awarded Domino's pizza parties for their class. The winning essays will also be submitted to WJXT-4 as possible feature stories, where the students may be given the opportunity to appear on TV to read their essay.

All essays should be sent via school mail to Annette Worthen, DCC PTA; #3001, 6th floor by Monday, February 15. For more information, download the attached flyer or contact Annette at 904.349.5263.


MOSH to Hold Free Water Festival

The Museum of Science and History (MOSH) will host its 11th annual Water Education Festival on February 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free event will have dozens of interactive displays and activities, designed to teach the importance of Florida’s water and natural resources in ways that appeal to children.

Highlights include making crafts, playing water education games and interacting with water animals from the Jacksonville Zoo. Fun features include a marine animal touch tank, a scavenger hunt, a “wacky weather science” presentation and MOSH’s newest exhibit, the A-Mazing Sea.


West Jacksonville Elementary Seeks Alumni to Participate in Black History Program

West Jacksonville Elementary is inviting all of its alumni to participate in their Black History Program being held February 24. They are seeking former students to come and speak to students during the Career Day portion of the event.

DCPS Grant Writing Workshop

On February 18, DCPS’ Grants Department will host a Grant Writing workshop for teachers, principals and district administrators. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room 606 of the district administration building, 1701 Prudential Drive.
