UPDATED: DCPS to Host Community Budget Meetings
Superintendent Pratt-Dannals is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss Duval County Public Schools’ current and upcoming financial situation, available revenue, and the district’s plan to meet its mission of providing all students with high quality educational opportunities.
Due to the overwhelming response at the first community meeting, the meeting previously scheduled for Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology has been relocated to Ed White High School. The new schedule is
Tuesday, March 16 at Ed White High School; Thursday, March 18 at Jean Ribault High School; and Tuesday, March 23 at Mandarin High School. All meetings will be begin at 6 p.m.
2010 Florida Missing Children’s Day Essay Contest for Fifth-Grade Students
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is inviting all DCPS’ fifth-grade students to participate in the 2010
Florida Missing Children's Day state-wide fifth-grade essay contest.
The winner will receive a prize package that includes $100, a trophy and a Universal Studios gift pack.

JTA's Summer Youth Program is Back
Spring break is just around the corner, which means that summer vacation will soon follow. When students buy a
Summer Youth Pass for the month of June, they'll receive the month of July free. August can be added for only $15 more - that's three
full months of transportation to the beach, the mall, movie theaters and summer jobs for only $45. This limited-time offer expires
Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
As an additional benefit, JTA has partnered with the Jacksonville Suns baseball team to offer free admission to
valid, current-month Summer Youth Pass holders during Sunday and Wednesday games. For more details call 904-630-3100. Passes are on
sale and may be purchased at the JTA Administration building at 100 North Myrtle St., the Rosa L. Parks Transit Station at State and

African American History Infusion Teacher Workshop
All Duval County Public Schools teachers are invited to participate in the State of Florida’s Task Force on African American History’s Leadership and Teacher Conference on the infusion of African American History into our curriculum.
The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership, 4019 Boulevard Center Drive. Participants will take part in several breakout sessions including “How to become an Exemplary School District”, “Building a School Culture of Acceptance and Understanding” and many other exciting topics.
Participants can earn up to six master plan points.

March to a Million Cell Phone Recycling Project
Samsung and Kaleidoscope Community Partners are working with middle and high schools across the nation to recycle
1 million cell phones in 2010 through their "March to a Million" campaign. For every 25 phones collected, each school receives one
entry into a sweepstakes to win one of a hundred $1,000 Green Grants for environmental initiatives at the winning schools, and a
concert to be held at winning schools.
All program leaders receive a free kit with all the resources needed to get started, including a leader guide with
tips, recycling guides to educate students, posters, prizes and much more. Kits will arrive at the end of March 2010. Phones must be
collected and postmarked by May 31st, 2010 to be eligible.
