Swine Flu (H1N1) Information
Parents, community members and concerned
citizens:
I know that many of you are concerned about the possibility of an outbreak of the Swine Flu (H1N1) in our
schools. It is important to know that there are currently
NO confirmed cases of swine influenza in Duval County.
Please be assured that the District is dedicated to maintaining the healthiest environment in our schools and that protective measures are being taken in a timely manner. We are working closely with the Duval County Health Department and are prepared in the event that a case becomes confirmed in Duval County.
There is currently a link on our Web site to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) information about the flu and ways to prevent the infection, as well as limit the spread.
Below are some good tips for preventing respiratory illnesses, including the flu:
- Maintain a strong and healthy immune system by getting adequate sleep,
exercise and a healthy diet.
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use an alcohol-based sanitizing gel to sanitize your hands frequently.
- Limit physical contact such as hand-shaking and hugging.
- Stay at least six feet away from a person who is coughing or sneezing.
- Cover coughs with your sleeve or shoulder.
- Stay home if you feel ill, particularly if you have a fever.
For more information, please visit our Web site, which includes a link to the CDC. You can also call the Florida Department of Health's hotline at 1-800-342-3557, open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
