Top Teachers in Duval County Named
Six teachers have been selected as finalists for Duval County Teacher of the Year. These six were chosen from all of the 160 school representatives. The 160 were narrowed to 18 semi-finalists based on their informational packet which included information about their professional development, classroom practices and knowledge of current educational topics. The District Selection Committee interviewed the 18 semi-finalists and narrowed the list to six finalists.
The six finalists include: Christine Andrews, Mathematics teacher at
Fletcher High;
David Burrell, fifth grade Science and Social Studies teacher at
Central Riverside Elementary;
Lucretia D. Miller, School Library Media Specialist at
Chaffee Trail Elementary;
Ronrica S. Pinkney, fifth grade teacher at
Henry F. Kite Elementary;
Susan Tidwell, School Instructional Coach at
Sandalwood High and Alison Watson, kindergarten teacher at
Beauclerc Elementary.
"The Teacher of the Year Program is a great way to show our appreciation for our hard-working and dedicated teachers," said Duval County Public School Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. "These individuals are a great representation of the highly qualified teachers that educate our children in Duval County."
All 160 of the Duval County Teachers of the Year will be honored at the EDDY Awards on April 10. Hosted by the Alliance for World Class Education, this formal affair, held at the Prime Osborn Convention Center, is in its 17th year. The celebration ends with the top teacher being named. This teacher will represent Duval County at the state level for Florida Teacher of the Year.

"The process is designed to identify the best teachers to represent the more than 8,000 teaching professionals in Duval County.
