Duval County Public Schools Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

JACKSONVILLE - The Government Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recently announced that Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) received their Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

This award represents a significant achievement by an entity, and reflects the commitment of their governing body and staff in meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive this award, an organization has to have met certain budgetary guidelines that assess how well their budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

DCPS' Budget Services Department was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation. When the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is presented to an organization, the Certificate of Recognition is given to the department who was primarily responsible for having achieved the award.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association who serves 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Awards program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. For budgets including fiscal period 2006, only 1,127 organizations received this award.

Duval County Public Schools operates more than 160 schools and serves approximately 125,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.
