Duval County School Board Recognizes Students, Staff and Community

JACKSONVILLE - At the monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, Board members and Superintendent Pratt-Dannals recognized several groups of students, staff and a member of the community for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Duval County Public Schools (DCPS).

During the presentation portion of the meeting, which began at 6 p.m. in the Cline Auditorium, 1701 Prudential Drive, the following people were recognized:

  • Pine Forest Elementary School of the Arts and John Stockton Elementary School were recognized for receiving awards from Magnet Schools of America;
  • Alan Due, principal of John Stockton Elementary School was recognized for being named the 2008 Administrator of the Year by the Council for Exceptional Children;
  • Jackie Cornelius, principal of Douglas Anderson School of the Arts was recognized for being named the 2008 Administrator of the year by the Florida Thespian Society;
  • Dane Gilbert, principal of Fletcher High School was recognized for being named the 2008 Administrator of the Year by the Duval Art Teachers Association;
  • The following students were recognized for achieving perfect attendance throughout their entire school careers:

  • Rhian Sutherland, Stanton College Preparatory School
    Brandon Ladson, Sandalwood High School
    David Summey, First Coast High School
    Matthew Williams, Mandarin High School
    Monica Whitsel, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts; and

  • The following students were recognized for their participation in the Paper Clips Project:

  • Tiphne Hollis, JEB Stuart Middle School
    Kayla Jolley, Sandalwood High School
    Cheyenne Light-Smith, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts
    Miranda Harrison, Baldwin Middle/Senior
    Elita Cook, Kirby-Smith Middle School
    Nastassia McGee, Kirby-Smith Middle School
    William Pendergraft, Kirby-Smith Middle School
