Duval County Public Schools Counselor wins
Florida School Counselor Association Award
JACKSONVILLE - Joni Shook, an elementary district level counselor, will receive the Supervisor/Advocacy Award at the 2008 Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) banquet tonight in Orlando.
Ms. Shook became a school counselor in 1981, and has worked as the formal leader of the district’s elementary school counselors for the past seven years. In this role, she co-wrote the Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) K-12 Comprehensive Guidance Plan and implemented an elementary Career Guidance Program, resulting in the state of Florida lauding the DCPS Guidance Program as "a leader in the state in preparing students for postsecondary education."
“Joni Shook is an asset to our school district and I applaud her efforts in assisting more than 100 elementary school counselors,” said Duval County Public Schools Superintendent, Ed Pratt-Dannals. “Her skills and collaborative nature have provided the students of Duval County with numerous opportunities for both academic and personal growth.”
The purpose of the Supervisor/Advocacy Award is to recognize an administrator, coordinator, director or supervisor whose leadership has shown outstanding services and impact in the guidance and counseling field for counselors on a local, state, or national level.
The FSCA supports school counselors' efforts to help students focus on academic, personal/social and career development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. FSCA provides professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy to school counselors throughout the state of Florida.
