Stanton Graduate named Duval County's Academic Top Scholar

JACKSONVILLE - The Florida Office of Student Financial Assistance identified Rojan Varghese, a 2008 Stanton College Preparatory graduate, as Duval County’s 2008-2009 Bright Futures Academic Top Scholar (ATS).

“It is an honor for a Duval County public school graduate to receive this prestigious award,” said Ed Pratt-Dannals, Superintendent of Duval County Public Schools. “Rojan’s success proves that we are fulfilling our vision of our students graduating with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in post-secondary education.”

Rojan, now a freshman at the University of South Florida, was ranked based on his Bright Futures GPA (calculated on the 15 required college preparatory credits) and his best composite SAT/ACT score as reported for his Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award eligibility.

In addition to the FAS award, Rojan will be given a fixed annual amount of $1,500, prorated by term and hours (excluding summer term). Florida Academic Top Scholars are being notified of their awards by the Florida Department of Education.

Duval County Public Schools operates more than 160 schools and serves approximately 123,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.
