Duval County Names 2009 Teacher of the Year Semifinalists

Jacksonville – The Jacksonville Public Education Fund released the names of 15 of Duval County Public Schools finest educators who are in the running to be named Duval County’s 2009 Teacher of the Year.

The following semifinalists will be interviewed by the District Selection Committee, who will then narrow the field to five finalists:

  • Amy Bright, West Jacksonville Elementary
  • Diane Brown-Smith, Merrill Road Elementary
  • Jessica Bush, Greenfield Elementary
  • Matthew Campese, Sandalwood High School
  • Rebecca Couch, Baldwin Middle-Senior High School
  • John Garman, Matthew Gilbert Middle
  • Brett Hartley, Twin Lakes Academy Middle
  • Ruby Hayes, Twin Lakes Academy Elementary
  • Margaret Holloway-Kundert, Chaffee Trail Elementary
  • Melanie Manuel-Webb, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts
  • Marjorie Nolan, First Coast High School
  • Staci Pendry, John E. Ford K-8
  • Alice Smith, Henry F. Kite Elementary
  • Crystal Taylor, Hyde Grove Elementary
  • AuGena White-Sapp, Rutledge Pearson Elementary

The 2009 Duval County Teacher of the Year will be announced at the EDDY Awards on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. The EDDY Awards are hosted by the Jacksonville Public Education Foundation, formerly the Alliance for World Class Education. Duval County’s Teacher of the Year will then go on to compete for the state-wide title.
