Duval County Public Schools Receives
Excellence in Financial Reporting Awards
Jacksonville, FL - For the eighth consecutive year, Duval County Public Schools has received Certificates of Excellence in Financial Reporting from both the Government Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
"These awards validate the credibility of DCPS’ operations," said Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. "By earning these awards, our Business Services Department has shown their dedication to the highest level of the general accepted accounting principles."
GFOA's Certificate of Excellence is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by government and its management. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association that serves 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America.
The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
ASBO's Certificate of Excellence is given to school districts that achieve excellence in the preparation and issuance of the fiscal year ending in 2008. The award, the highest recognition for school district financial operations offered by ASBO, is only conferred to school systems that have met or exceeded the standards of the program.
ASBO designed the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Program to enable school business officials to achieve a high standard of financial reporting.
ASBO International is a professional association of nearly 6,000 school business management professionals that provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices.
