Subaru of Jacksonville Teams with Local Elementary Schools to Launch the "A Lot to Love About Reading" Event

Jacksonville, Fla - Subaru of Jacksonville will be spreading the love to elementary kids throughout Duval County with the “A Lot to Love about Reading” event. Beginning October 15th through November 30th, Subaru of Jacksonville will team up with Martin Luther King Elementary, Sadie Tillis Elementary, and Arlington Heights Elementary. Grades three, four and five will participate in “A Lot to Love about Reading” to see who reads the most books by the end of November.

To start the reading adventure for the children, volunteers from area churches, called Super Subaru Volunteers, will visit each school and read from select books. Children will then be set loose on their own and rewards will be given to the child, class, and school who reads the most! Each child will keep a tally of his or her reading accomplishments through a coupon book provided by Subaru of Jacksonville. The coupon book will ask simple questions and tie in reading comprehension, another important lesson of the “A Love to Love about Reading” program. The coupons will be kept and tallied by school librarians.

Subaru of Jacksonville will provide numerous incentives to keep the children interested and excited throughout the program. Halfway through the program, one class per grade will be give a generous gift card to purchase school supplies for that classroom, and the students will be in charge of selecting how the card will be used. At the end of the program, one winner per grade per school will be selected, and receive school wide recognition, an engraved trophy and a gift certificate to an area book store to spend as he or she chooses. Finally, a grand prize school winner will be selected based on total books read and be given a large monetary donation to be used by the entire school.

Subaru is giving so many reasons for students to read and teachers to participate. At Subaru of Jacksonville’s “A Lot to Love about Reading” Event, everyone is a winner. And this event is just a continuation of Subaru of Jacksonville’s charitable contributions to the Jacksonville community. On September 21, 2009, Subaru of Jacksonville donated a WRX STI to the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office for a year. And in 2008, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Subaru of Jacksonville held the first annual Doggy Day at the dealership on December 13th. The SPCA brought various dogs to the dealership available for adoption, and many of them were taken in to loving homes that very day! Subaru of Jacksonville also held a holiday pizza party for the Woodland Acres location of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida. In addition, Subaru supports The Meals on Wheels Association of America. During the month of December, Subaru of Jacksonville donated a whole work day, six employees, and three 2009 Subaru Foresters to make deliveries for this charity all over the Jacksonville and Orange Park areas.
