Media Advisory: Goo Goo Dolls Lend a Hand with Blessings in a Backpack at Mayport Elementary School

Mayport Elementary students and the Goo Goo Dolls.
WHAT:
The Goo Goo Dolls will join students at Mayport Elementary School to talk about the importance of education and help stuff backpacks for the Blessings in a Backpack program.
250 students at Mayport Elementary and 27 Jacksonville Beach elementary students are provided with a backpack each Friday filled with ready-to-eat food items such as fruit roll ups, juice boxes, instant noodles, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, cereal, etc.
Students who participate in the Blessings in a Backpack program show marked improvement in school attendance, test scores, behavior, and health. Food is an essential building block, and in this case truly is a blessing, especially to a hungry child.
The Goo Goo Dolls is an American rock band formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York by John Rzeznik and Robby Takac. As of 2009, the band has sold more than nine million records in the United States alone.
