Duval County School Board recognizes a principal, schools and a business partner during monthly meeting

Jacksonville, FL- During the presentation portion of the monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and Board members recognized a principal, schools and a business partner for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Duval County Public Schools:

  • Todd Simpson, principal of Reynolds Lane Elementary, was recognized for receiving the $10,000 Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award presented by the Council for Educational Change;
  • The following schools were recognized for participating in the September Book of the Month Quilt Project at the Jacksonville Agricultural Fair:

    Juror Award winners:

    • Andrew Robinson Elementary won first-place and $500;
    • Seabreeze Elementary won second-place and $300;
    • Chimney Lakes Elementary won third-place and $150; and
    • Abess Park Elementary was selected as honorable mention and won $50;

    Community Award winners:

    • R.L. Brown Elementary won first-place and $500;
    • George Washington Carver Elementary won second-place and $300;
    • Chaffee Trail Elementary won third-place and $150; and
    • Arlington Elementary was selected as honorable mention and won $50;

    Merit Award ribbons:

    • Arlington Elementary;
    • Chaffee Trail Elementary;
    • Jacksonville Heights Elementary;
    • Louis Sheffield Elementary;
    • Martin Luther King Elementary;
    • Merrill Road Elementary;
    • Sadie Tillis Elementary;
    • Susie Tolbert Elementary;
    • Windy Hill Elementary; and
    • Northshore K-8
  • BB&T was recognized for its contributions to Alden Road Exceptional Student Center through its Lighthouse Project. BB&T donated $10,000 to mulch the entire courtyard to make it wheelchair accessible for the students, landscaped the area with plants and flowers, and provided benches and umbrellas for the patio tables. They also provided additional supplies, such as paper products, gardening tools, and supplies for arts and crafts.

Duval County Public Schools operates 172 schools and serves approximately 123,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.
