Media Advisory: Jacksonville-Area Students to Receive Free Books

Pearson Foundation donating books to Florida school children during Statewide We Give Books ReadMobile Tour

Jacksonville, FL - Next week, students will receive free books, thanks to a grant from We Give Books, the new online children’s reading community. The books will be delivered in Jacksonville at Justina Road Elementary School at a reading celebration. The We Give Books ReadMobile Tour is driving across the state of Florida to share the joy of reading and the power of giving. The reading event is part of the month long campaign to engage Floridians in reading online to help put books in the hands of children in Florida who don’t have them.

WHAT: Student, teacher and faculty, supported by Duval County Public Schools, will take part in a lively reading celebration. Not only will they share a story from author Anna Dewdney’s Llama Llama book series through the We Give Books online digital library, but they’ll also receive a free print copy of a Llama Llama book to take home, provided by the Pearson Foundation and We Give Books.

WHERE: Justina Road Elementary School, 3101 Justina Road, Jacksonville, FL 32277

WHEN: Monday, February 28 at 9:00 AM

The statewide We Give Books Florida campaign is an effort to equip Florida families, classrooms, and libraries with print and online books for children who may not otherwise have a library – or even a single book – of their own.

The We Give Books Florida campaign will be visiting schools and community centers throughout the state, leading up to the celebration of Children’s Week in Tallahassee (April 3–6) and the announcement of a new campaign that will provide book grants to elementary schools around the state through We Give Books. Students, parents, educators, and other Floridians will have the opportunity to get involved by signing up to be a part of Read For My School Florida, where, simply by reading a free book online, they’ll be helping to donate a book to their own school.

A digital collection of hundreds of children’s books is also available for Florida teachers and families to access for free at www.wegivebooks.com. Follow the We Give Books ReadMobile across Florida on Facebook and Twitter (@WeGiveBooks), hashtag #WGBFlorida.
