Duval County School Board recognizes students, teachers, an employee and DCPS’ art programs during monthly meeting
Jacksonville, FL - During the presentation portion of the monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and Board members recognized students, teachers, an employee and DCPS’ art programs for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Duval County Public Schools:
- Chelsea Claverie and Maryam Shabbir, students at Stanton College Preparatory, were recognized for winning first- and second-place, respectively, in the older division of the 2010 National Poison Prevention Week Poster Contest;
- The following teachers were recognized for being named a Duval County Public Schools’ 2011 Florida Blue Teacher of the Year finalist:
- Edward Moore, Northwestern Middle;
- Andrew Hubbuch, Justina Road Elementary;
- Katy Burns, Beauclerc Elementary;
- Andrea Miranda, Fort Caroline Middle; and
- Youmone Berrien, First Coast High;
- Rosemarie Wilkening, a part-time English for Speakers of Other Languages paraprofessional at Chets Creek Elementary, was recognized for being named the 2011 School-Related Employee of the Year; and
- The Midtown Centre Foundation presented DCPS’ art programs with a $4,000 check as part of their ongoing effort to support the arts.
Duval County Public Schools operates 172 schools and serves approximately 123,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.
