Teacher Appreciation Week
Jacksonville, FL - The week of May 2-6, 2011
has been designated Teacher Appreciation Week.
Duval County Public Schools (DCPS)
employs nearly 8,500 teachers. These teachers are the foundation
of the school district through which the students receive the
highest quality education.
There are no words to define the
numerous roles a teacher plays. Teachers act as friends,
mentors, protectors, listeners, cheerleaders and role models.
DCPS’ teachers are inspiring and their contributions to the
students of Duval County cannot be measured by any scale or
calculation.
“Our teachers are not only teaching
our students how to read and write, they are teaching them how
to be upstanding citizens of society,” said Superintendent of
Duval County Public Schools Ed Pratt-Dannals. “Their commitment
and effectiveness opens the door for every one of our students;
they are truly helping to provide them with opportunities for a
fulfilling future.”
During this week, show teachers how
much their time and effort are appreciated. A teacher’s job does
not end when the bell rings and is not restricted to the walls
of the classroom, it encompasses so much more.
Duval County Public Schools operates
172 schools and serves approximately 123,000 students. The
school district is committed to providing high quality
educational opportunities that will inspire all students to
acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a
global economy, and culturally diverse world.
